    AFFIRMING CARE

A space where you do not need to explain yourself.

LGBTIQA+ individuals may face specific mental health challenges related to identity, discrimination, family rejection, coming out, and navigating a world that has not always been affirming. The minority stress model describes how chronic exposure to stigma and social exclusion can contribute to elevated rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health difficulties.

Affirming psychological care begins with recognising that LGBTIQA+ identities are a normal part of human diversity. Our psychologists provide a space where you can explore the aspects of your identity and experience that matter to you, without needing to educate, justify, or explain yourself.

All clinicians at Contemporary Psychology are committed to LGBTIQA+ affirming practice. We do not engage in any form of conversion or change practice, which is both unethical and illegal.
